Ms Maria Baroni from ANCI IDEALI and Mr Alberto Gherardini from ReCS visited El Mina and Fez on March 3^rd and 4^th,2008.
In El Mina they met the Mayor, Mr Alameddine, and the project coordinator Dr Samer Annous.
They illustrated that Tripoli is predisposing its Strategic Plan and STREAM Cities could be El Mina’s opportunity to work on the part of the Plan related to El Mina (strategic plan of the old city as part of Tripoli’s integrated plan). More specifically, El Mina’s plan is to work for Ecotourism, in order to re-launch tourism and craftsmanship, since there is the harbour and fishing is a prevalent activity. Other activities to be developed are related to boats repair and maintenance (with a specific school and a scuba-diving school).
In Fez they met the Deputy Mayor, Dr Mohamed Laraqui Housseini, the Head of International Relations and Cooperation, Mr Abdelmajid Njioui, and the Head of Cultural and Social Affairs Department, Mr Essaïd Ben Amar Amrani.
The project STREAM Cities, and the opportunities it offers, was explained. The project will be utilised to develop the strategic planning of the requalification of the Medina and of the suks.
